Chafford Hundred Lakeside railway station

Chafford Hundred Lakeside railway station, also known as Chafford Hundred railway station, is a National Rail station located in Chafford Hundred in the borough of Thurrock in Essex, England. The station is owned by Network Rail and is managed by the c2c train operating company. It is situated on a branch of the London-Tilbury-Southend route from Fenchurch Street in London to Southend Central, and has an enclosed footbridge connection to the adjacent Lakeside Shopping Centre. The station was opened by British Rail in 1993 and has one platform. Although outside London fare zones 1 to 6, the station became part of the Oyster card pay-as-you-go rail network in January 2010.
==History==

The single track line through the area was opened in 1893 by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway as part of a branch from Romford to Grays via Upminster. By the late 20th century service on the line had been reduced to a relatively infrequent shuttle between Upminster and Grays, calling only at Ockendon. Following the opening of Lakeside Shopping Centre in 1990 a new single platform station was opened in 1993 by British Rail. Initially a free shuttle bus connected the station to the shopping centre, with a direct pedestrian bridge link replacing it in 2000. The shuttle train service was eventually extended beyond Upminster to Fenchurch Street and beyond Grays to Southend Central; with service levels increased to two trains an hour during railway operating hours. Usage is moderate for a suburban station and increasing; to expand capacity the buildings were rebuilt in 2006. Ticket barriers are in operation. In 2014 the station was renamed from 'Chafford Hundred' to 'Chafford Hundred Lakeside' to reflect its location in Chafford Hundred and the adjacent to Lakeside shopping centre.
